Green County is a Great Place
to Visit and to Live!

Future Forward! Green County was formed to help get that message out and help ensure the future is bright for Green County, its communities and the surrounding area.  Four main working groups (or committees) have formed and meet regularly to help guide this effort. You can find a brief description of each group here.

Get Connected, Get Ahead (with Talent Anarchists -- Joe and Jason)

Please note that about the first 10 minutes of this one are set-up oriented so you may want to fast-forward through that section to get to the juicy stuff. http://next.na4.acrobat.com/p44044203/

Leadership Committee

This dynamic committee serves to provide the overall strategy and vision of the Future Forward! Green County initiative.  The Leadership Committee coordinates the efforts of all the working groups, provides support for ongoing projects and makes sure everyone is moving toward a common goal.

Boomerang Committee

The Boomerang Committee is working to decrease the “brain-drain” from Green County and to bring back home former residents to Green County.  The group also works to bring new residents into the county.  (A “Boomeranger” is a person who returns to their home area after being away for several years.)

Community Liaison Committee

The Liaison Committee promotes Future Forward! Green County projects and works to coordinate the efforts of Future Forward! with the many great groups and efforts that already exist in the county so that everyone can better work toward the larger goal of helping the county succeed into the future.  The committee also helps coordinate the efforts of the individual Future Forward! committees for maximum efficiency.

Portal Committee

The Portal Committee is effectively the technology arm of Future Forward! which recognizes that today's young professionals rely heavily on modern technology and the Internet for news, information and social activities. Future Forward! and local web development company Green County Spotlight LLC have joined forces to create a web portal for the Green County area that makes it easy for anyone looking for Green County information online to better connect with available resources.  To learn more about the Portal project, please visit www.GreenCountySpotlight.com. The Portal Committee is also involved in supporting other Future Forward! technology projects and researching ways to employ technology for the benefit of the community  (for example the committee maintains this website).

What's it all about?
The Future Forward! Green County initiative kicked off in late 2007 with a speech and community discussion led by Rebecca Ryan of Madison's Next Generation Consulting.  Ryan discussed seven indexes that factor into gen-x and millennial generation decisions (whether conscious or subconscious) about where to live and work. They include: earning potential, learning potential, vitality (quality of life), after-hours offerings, cost of lifestyle, around town (proximity to important places),  and social capital (community diversity and level of citizen engagement). Future Forward! Green County is working to better understand how Green County currently measures up against these indices and how we, as a community, can work together to address shortcomings and secure a better future for the Green County area.
